Sela Yoga Book a class

About Sela Yoga

I run Sela Yoga on my own and teach every class myself. The groups are small, so after a couple of weeks I know everyone by name and which poses they find hard.

The coloured background slowly expands for four seconds and settles for six, the pace of a slow breath.

Who teaches the classes

I'm Sela. I started going to yoga classes in 2009 and began teaching in 2014, after a 200 hour training and then a 300 hour training over the next three years.

Before that I worked for eight years as a physiotherapy assistant. That is why I spend a lot of class time on how joints move and where to stop, and less on how a pose looks.

I do not use cover teachers. If I am ill, the class is cancelled and your card is extended by a week. Outside the hall I teach a few private sessions and a morning class for the staff of a local school.

How a class runs

This is a 75 minute evening class. Morning flow and the lunchtime class follow the same order in less time.

  3. 25 to 45 minStanding posesLunges, balances and side stretches.
  4. 45 to 65 minFloor posesTwists, hips and forward bends.
  5. 65 to 75 minRestLying down under a blanket.

Before you arrive

Eat lightly in the two hours before. Wear clothes you can bend in, and expect to be barefoot. Phones go in the basket by the door.

Hands-on help

I sometimes adjust a pose with my hands. There is a small card on every mat. Turn it face down if you would rather not be touched and I will use words instead.

Arriving late

The door stays open for the first ten minutes. After that I lock it, because the rest of the building is empty in the evening.

Injuries and pregnancy

Tell me before class and I will give you options for every pose. If you are pregnant, talk to me before you book so we can choose the right class.

The last ten minutes of every class are rest.

The hall

Linden Hall is the main room of the Linden Street community centre. I rent it nine times a week. It is about twelve metres by eight, with a sprung wooden floor and tall windows on two sides.

There is underfloor heating, a changing room, two toilets and a kettle in the corner. Mats, blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets are in the cupboard by the door, and the blankets are washed every week.

The entrance is step-free from the street and there is a bike rack outside. Map and directions

Book your first class

Tell me which class you would like and whether you have any injuries I should know about. Your first class is $10, and I will keep a mat for you.
